         Sayville NY,

           Grand Champion!

Meat at Slim's closed out our 2009 competition season
at The Battle of the BBQ Brethren in Sayville, NY
over the last full weekend of October. We made the
ferry crossing at New London and arrived to dry conditions.
Saturday night the skies opened up and we all sloshed
around under our tents. The rain broke early Sunday AM
to a beautiful day with good crowds in attendance. At the
awards we got our first call of the year in chicken (4th).
Next was a first prize call for our ribs. No call for pork and
a seventh place brisket call. The mighty Smoke on Wheels
was in town to close the door on their Empire State
Championship victory and had several great calls: 2nd Ribs,
5th Pork and a 2nd in Brisket. When the smoke cleared
Meat at Slim's was called to the stage for our first KCBS
Grand Champion Award! Thanks to our family and friends
for your support in our first year of competition. Without
you this would not have been possible! Thanks to all of our
new friends on the competition BBQ circuit for your advice,
encouragement and company. Many of you have served
as role models and teachers to Meat at Slim's and we
are grateful. Best to all in 2010!
